Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then located multiple other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests show the fluid was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no clue as to its source; officials are presently not cognizant of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials said they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have requested to the residents for information.
An important official stated the attack rendered him speechless and had to be solved promptly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he posted on social media, referring to the murder of nine victims by a assailant targeting residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
